Introduction
Hello, I'm David Witmer, one of the managers of the Green Line Cafe in Philadelphia PA. Since it opened over four years ago, the Green Line has exclusively served certified organic and Fair Trade coffee. In January I had the opportunity to travel to Nicaragua with our coffee roasters Equal Exchange to visit farmer-owned coffee plantations, learn about coffee harvesting and processing, and experience first-hand the principles of Fair Trade in action.
The goal of the trip was to create personal relationships with the farmers who produce some of the coffees you so thoroughly enjoy. We were welcomed into the farmers' homes, educated in the history of Nicaragua, the relationships between Equal Exchange and Nicaraguan farmers, the policies of Fair Trade, and the production of coffee from the planting all the way to the cup.
In upcoming days I will be blogging here about my experience learning to know the folks who produce the quality coffee that we support through Fair Trade cooperative organizations. Thanks and stay posted!

Hey Dave - It's your old - and I mean OLD - pal Rosemary Connors, your customer from 44th Street who coldly and cruelly moved away from West Philly (but you said nice things about me to my Mambo Movers guys the day I moved, so thanks for that). I hope you are doing well and are happy - your trip seems cool and I am looking forward to learning more about it with the blog.
I *promise* I will come in and see you at the old Green Line some morning soon - because even though I live in the 'burbs now, I just got a job in the city. How's that for timing? I am in Old City to be specific - I am the new director of the Philadelphia Film Society. My email here is rconnors@phillyfests.com if you want to email me here. See you soon!
